- NotesThe defining characteristic of the Fat Boy remains its disc wheels. These 18-inchers are updated with a new ribbed look called “Lakester” and are shod with wider 160mm front and 240mm rear rubber. Styling remains recognizably Fat Boy, but pushes new boundaries. Take the modern interpretation of the headlight nacelle, a chunky round-meets-square metal box shaped like “an Atomic Age TV” and housing an all-new LED headlight. As with the rest of the new 2018 Softail model lineup, the Fat Boy now features a new version of the four-valve-per-cylinder Milwaukee-Eight 107ci V-twin with dual counterbalancers to cancel primary vibration. This allows the engine to be rigid mounted in the frame, which increases chassis stiffness for improved handling. Harley-Davidson claims the 107ci Milwaukee-Eight makes the new bikes 10 percent faster from 0-60 than the High Output Twin Cam 103 engine used previously. The mild-steel tubular frame has also been redesigned and is 65 percent stiffer than the outgoing Softail frame. This new frame has 50 percent fewer component parts, 22 percent fewer welds and, with the solid-mount engine, makes for an overall 34 percent more rigid chassis. This new frame (along with other changes) help reduce the weight of the Fat Boy by 31 pounds for 2018. Lighter, more precise steering and increased lean angle are further benefits. The Showa Dual Bending Valve (SDBV) fork Harley-Davidson introduced to much praise on the FL touring line last year is now applied to 2018 Softail motorcycles. The Showa fork reduces weight and provides linear damping characteristics to provide a more comfortable, better controlled ride and improved handling. At the rear, Harley ditched the Dyna twin shocks in favor of a single under-seat coil-over unit shared by all new Softails. In this new design, shock action is conventional--that is the rear wheel hits a bump and compresses the shock--whereas the old Softail design extended the shocks when the wheel hit a bump. (YMC) announces the development of the latest model change of its mid-class supersport model YZF-R6, mounting on an aluminum frame a 600cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke DOHC in-line-4 cylinder 4-valve high-performance engine with power output that exceeds the equivalent of 200 hp per liter of displacement. This new model will be displayed at the Mondial du Deux Roues 2007 show opening in Paris on Sept. 28 and will be released on the market as a 2008 model. This model adopts Yamaha’s new “YCC-I” electronic control intake, which has been developed under Yamaha’s G.E.N.I.C.H. engineering ideal using exclusive electronic control technologies and is now put to practical use to boost engine performance. Another new feature is the lightweight magnesium rear frame made possible by a unique Yamaha technology and adopted for the first time ever on a production motorcycle. - NotesGreat condition especially for the age, , runs and rides amazing, ready to go. The Ninja’s frame has been extensively retooled. The leader of the ZX’s chassis development, Masato Morii, told Motorcycle.com that the bike’s structure has higher overall rigidity. About the odd donut-shaped holes in the frame spars, he explained that without them, the bike’s dynamics gave the impression of two flex points that didn’t offer a singular cohesive feedback. Apparently, factory Kawasaki Superbike racers Roger Lee Hayden and Jamie Hacking had some participation in this development. The frame has reliefs on its inner side in which donut-shaped pieces are welded in from the inside for optimum structural integrity. Another factor in the confidence the ZX offers is enhanced rider feedback from a greater number of touch points between the bike and rider. A new fuel tank has a flared area around its top so a rider can rest the inside of their arm while railing around a turn. A similar theme is played out at the frame area where the knees touch and at the cup-like rear edge of the seat. Kawi also claims an improvement in rider feel via the new die-cast subframe which consists of two sections, allowing the rear portion to be easily removed for racing. Scything through the 16 corners of Losail, the big Ninja felt anything but. It won’t be a favorite sport-touring mount for NBA players, but its ergonomics work well on the racetrack. A large fuel tank indentation at its top allows for a tight race tuck, and its mirrors actually proved to have a useful view. The seat is a bit shorter front to rear but is still roomy, and its narrow section up front allows legs a straight shot to the ground. The tall tailsection forces a skyward leg swing to clear it when climbing aboard. All previous ZX-10s were never short on power, and this year’s model is no exception. According to Kawasaki-supplied data, this latest Ninja boasts an increase in crankshaft horsepower of 6, now up to 179 horsepower at 11,500 rpm.
